קשה לעמוד בבית הכנסת של גמלא (כולל “חדר לימוד”, “מבוי”, “מקום לנטילת ידיים” ועוד) בלי דמעות בעיניים. לא רחוק משם, בתי מגורים, מערכת של בית-בד, איזור מסחר ועוד. הנה, כך ממש חיו יהודים לפני כאלפיים שנה. מה היה קורה אילו הצליחו בקרב נגד הרומאים? ואולי דוקא נשארו חקוקים על ליבנו בגלל המפלה הקשה והכואבת? האם זהו נצחון מסוג אחר?? באיזור שביל לעגלות סביב מרכז המבקרים, ושביל קשה יותר לחורבות גמלא עצמן, שמומלץ לא להכנס אליו אחרי השעה 14:00. האתר נסגר ב-18:00. לקראת סוף הקיץ, חם מאד ועדין נעים, במיוחד עם הבריזה של אחהצ.

It is difficult to stand in Gamla’s synagogue (including “study room”, “mavoi”, “hands washing basin” and more) without getting teary. Not far away, there are the residences, a place to produce olive-oil, a commerce area and more. This is how Jews lived here about two thousand years ago. What would have happened if they had succeeded in the battle against the Romans? And perhaps it is precisely because they didn’t, that they remain engraved on our hearts, because of the severe and painful loss? Is this a different kind of victory?? In the area there is a concrete trail around the visitor center, and a more challenging trail to the ruins of Gamla itself, which it is recommended not to enter after 2:00pm. The site closes at 6 p.m. Towards the end of summer, it is very hot yet still pleasant, especially with the afternoon breeze. Sunscreen and water – a must. Highly recommended.

Shomron – השומרון

עבור רבים מאיתנו, השומרון (“הגדה המערבית”, “השטחים”) הוא מקום ששומעים עליו בחדשות וגם מביעים עליו דיעה, אבל לבקר? בשביל מה? לא מסוכן? אז בקיצור, טוב מראה עיניים ממשמע אוזניים: הרים, נופים עוצרי נשימה, כפרים, ישובים, מעיינות, יזמות וגם חלוציות בלי מרכאות ועוד. בואו לראות.  

For many of us, the Shomron / Samaria (“West Bank”, “Occupied Territories”) is a place we hear of in the news and state an opinion on, but to visit? What for? Is it not dangerous? Yes and maybe but if possible, t’s better to see with one’s own eyes than to (judge from) hear say: mountains, breathtaking views, villages, settlements, springs, innovations, and much more .
